As the 2013 Senior Bowl players arrived in Mobile, Alabama on Sunday morning, they checked into their hotel rooms and then were quickly ushered off for physicals and later introduced to their temporary head coach and position coaches. They then remained in organizational meetings until early evening. When they left the meetings it was with a playbook.
For many, if not all, of the players Monday morning came early. They were trying very hard to bottle up their excitement and control their nerves. All 105 players were fed and then instructed to wear a tight fitting pair of Under Amour shorts and walk across a stage one at a time so scouts could measure their hands, arms, wing span and record their height and weight. All this was done in front of 800 plus NFL personnel including several general managers, front office executives, coaches and scouts. Everyone was gathered and took notes of body type and recorded all measurements that were being announced.
The tallest player was DL Margus Hunt out of SMU, the heaviest player was Georgia defensive lineman John Jenkins, who came in at 359 pounds and the longest arms went to Alabama’s offensive lineman D.J. Fluker, they measured in at 36 3/8 inches.
Today’s practice sessions were held at two different locations. The South team, coached by the Detroit Lions, held practice at Fairhope Stadium (15 miles east of Mobile).
