The St. Louis Rams have drafted former Missouri Tigers defensive end Michael Sam, who becomes the first openly gay player in NFL history.
“In a world of diversity we live in now, I’m honored to be a part of this,” head coach Jeff Fisher said.
A lot of questions, however, still surround what Sam can do on the field. The seventh-round selection’s numbers at the scouting combine were not impressive, with his performance at Mizzou’s pro day only slightly better.
Overall, Sam is a football player who doesn’t test well, but plays the game with a passion and desire between the lines; there is a relentless attitude and motor until the whistle. He loves the game, respects the game and could end up being a key cog in Gregg Williams’ rotation as a DPR and core special teams players.
