St. Charles, MO – On a hot and humid night at Howell North Stadium, it wasn’t just the weather that got to the Varsity Knight Football team. The Vianney Griffins came into the game looking like a team on a mission. Junior quarterback Nick Voorhees led his team to a 42-13 victory over the Francis Howell North Knights.

On Vianney’s opening drive they were able to go down the field with their run-option offense. But the Knights defense was able to hold off the early surge with a big sack from Sophomore Line Backer Austin Bowen, forcing the Griffins to punt. The Francis Howell North Knights offense unfortunately could not capitalize on their defense great effort. Junior quarterback Konner Fitzgerald was sacked by South Carolina commit Senior Kyle Markway. That was Markway’s first of three sacks he had on the night. Things got much worse for Howell North as a poor snap on the punt attempt put the Griffins offense in Knight Territory on their next drive.

That led to the Griffins first score of the night as Miami (OH) commit Senior Tight End Jordan Hardwick caught a 24 yard pass from Voorhees in the first quarter. Later in the second quarter the Knight offense sputtered again as Konner Fitzgerald threw an interception to the Griffins that would lead to Nick Voorhees throwing a 40 yard pass to Wide Receiver Nolan Snyder to go up 14-0. The Knight offense did answer back with big runs from their Senior Running Back Elijah Keely, finishing off their offensive drive with a 1 yard run by Elijah Keely making the score 14-7 at the half.

Coming out of the half, the Griffins continued their dominance as they put up two more scores on the Knights. Nolan Snyder had a 25 yard interception for a touchdown and Nick Voorhees threw a pass to Nolan Snyder for another big touchdown on the night. But the Knights did fight back with a big 92 yard kick-off return touchdown by Elijah Keely. But the Knights offense got shut out the rest of the way while Nick Voorhees led his team to two more scoring drives in the fourth quarter that led to a victory and a 1-0 record on the season. Nick Voorhees had a great night as he went 9-20 in pass attempts for 150 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also had 14 rushing attempts for 106 yards and a touchdown. Voorhees averaged 7.6 yards per carry. Nolan Snyder had a big night on both sides of the football. He had 3 receptions for 51 yards and 2 touchdowns and an interception for a touchdown. The Griffin defense was dominant as they had 10 sacks and forced 3 turnovers. A very rough night for the Francis Howell North Knights as they, start the season with a 0-1 record. They look to bounce back on August 29th as they hit the road against the Fort Zumwalt East Lions. The Vianney Griffins look to stay on a roll as they will have their home opener that very same night against Jackson High School.
